“Desperate Housewives” made its debut in 2004 to rave reviews and high Nielsen ratings. Season one of the display is considered a recent classic. For most people, the same couldn’t be said for seasons two and three. Many people though the second and third seasons were disappointing. I concept the second season was helpful (though not expansive), and the third season was a puny improvement over season two (though it unruffled didn’t top the first season) . But after watching the entire fourth season of “Desperate Housewives”, the present is encourage on track. This is the best season since the first.

Season four of the indicate about those housewives from the fictional Wisteria Lane (located in the town of Fairview) was the most though-provoking, most fascinating, and most consuming season since season one. Many of the same major characters are back: Susan, Lynette, Bree, Gabrielle, Edie, Mike, Carlos, Tom, Orson, and narrator Mary Alice. But what really makes the fourth season of “Desperate Housewives” so large is the addition of a unique character: Katherine Mayfair. As season four begins, we procure out that Katherine traditional to live on Wisteria Lane many years ago but has now moved serve to the neighborhood with her powerful younger husband Adam and daughter Dylan. And yes, we can mutter from the first episode that Katherine is hiding a deep dusky secret that will eventually unfold as the season progresses. Some of the other major storylines throughout season four include: Lynette battling cancer (which she discovered leisurely in season three) ; Susan (after marrying Mike at the raze of season three) finds out that she’s pregnant; Bree faking a pregnancy to protect daughter Danielle’s right pregnancy; Mike developing a drug scrape when he becomes addicted to pills; Gabrielle finding marriage to town mayor Victor Lang to be so boring that she starts having an affair with ex-husband Carlos; and probably the biggest myth of the year, Wisteria Lane being destroyed by a tornado.

That tornado episode, titled “Something’s Coming” (episode #9), was easily the best episode of the season and the second best episode overall (the very best episode of “Desperate Housewives” smooth remains that supermarket hostage crisis episode from season three) . This was reportedly the most expensive episode of “Desperate Housewives” to date, obviously since special effects played a substantial share in it. But unprejudiced like that supermarket hostage episode, it’s a thrilling and though-provoking episode that keeps you on the edge of your seat as you wonder who will reach out of it alive or dull.

The stars of this expose once again do a tall job honest as they have in the previous three seasons. Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Noxious, Eva Longoria Parker, and Nicolette Sheridan are stunning as usual, but in season four they salvage upended by the newcomer to Wisteria Lane. Two-time Emmy winner Dana Delany (“China Beach”) is an absolute standout as Katherine Mayfair. There’s an moving back-story titillating Delany and “Desperate Housewives” when the show’s creator Marc Cherry was casting the indispensable roles encourage in 2004. Cherry originally offered Delany the role of Bree, but turned it down since she claimed it was too similar to a role she had on a short-lived TV series she starred on a few years earlier (that note was called “Pasadena”, which aired on FOX) . But Cherry never gave up on her. After he created current character Katherine he wanted Delany for the portion, and this time she current. It’s exciting because Katherine is kind of like Bree, but only darker. And Delany stepped proper into the role of Katherine and made it her hold. I assume this was similar to what Cherry and the rest of the “Desperate Housewives” writers were trying to do two years ago when they created the Betty Applewhite character for season two and failed miserably. This time they got it suitable, and the writers should be congratulated for not messing up the Katherine Mayfair storyline. This was an entertaining storyline throughout season four, and it ends perfectly in the final episode. And what makes it even better, Delany’s Katherine will be abet next season.

My only complaint about “Desperate Housewives: The Complete Fourth Season” is that the season was shorter than usual. You can blame that on all the writers from the exiguous conceal to the broad cover for going on strike for three months, which ended shutting down the production on not only “Desperate Housewives”, but all shows on television. And that was kind of a bummer, because a few more storylines had to be slit short. For example, there was a very comic storyline curious a elated male couple that moved to Wisteria Lane, and I assume the writers originally had planned to expand this storyline throughout the season. But after the writer’s strike ended and there was only room for seven episodes, the writers couldn’t expand this storyline has they had planned. Whether or not this storyline will be expanded for season five remains to be seen.

And when season five debuts in the topple of 2008, it’ll be keen to peek what will be going on. In the final moments of the last episode of season four, the action flash forwards to five years later, which I presume is where the explain will retract up when season five starts. And it’ll be provocative to leer what’s going on, because “Desperate Housewives” leaves us dangling with another bizarre cliffhanger: who’s the man (and it’s not Mike) that’s kissing Susan in the final scene?

In season 4 of DH we peep the demonstrate going befriend to the basics, to the thing that made fans savor DH: the friendships. The friendships of Lynette, Susan, Bree and Gabrielle, as well as each individual character, were tested over and over again and they endured. It was this quality of enduring friendship amongst women that makes this expose so wonderful.

Season 3 dealt with each women independently, barely interacting with the other friends and thus we lost that which made the present worthwhile, their interactions. Season 4 takes another route and shows the women provide each other a strong wait on system. Lynette relies on her friends and family to go through cancer, Bree deals with faking a pregnancy, Susan must deal with her marriage with Mike and Gabrielle must resolve between Carlos and Victor.

We also discover the introduction of another character, Katherine Mayfair (and of course, her many secrets which deserve to be a character all of their absorb) . She was such an qualified character that I instantly liked her, secrets and all. Katherine was a feeble resident of Wisteria Lane and a friend of Susan’s. She has a ton of secrets and a plot to challenge each and everyone of our Wisteria Lane ladies.

Tornadoes, blackmail (tons of blackmail), ex-husbands, drugs, maniacs, and tons of humor. This is one of the best DH seasons to date.

We bought this for our 4-year ragged daughter and she loves it. The movie is very well done and she wanted to contemplate it over and over again. She asked a lot of questions and I am really impressed how this movie helped with the explanation of the moral meaning of Easter and what it quiet means to us this day.

We purchased this video to reveal the Easter Legend to the children at our church. It was well done, connected original day kids with aged Biblical truths, and handled the crucifixion in an appropriate diagram for younger children. It kept the attention of the children, as well as the adults. A marvelous resource to have at Easter.

These movies certainly won’t appeal to everyone, but I personally found them refreshingly different, inviting and very appetizing. Whether or not you will relish them depends not only on personal taste but also what you intend to regain out of seeing movies. If you’ve dismissed movies such as David Lynch’s “Eraserhead” or “Lost Highway” as ‘arsty pretentious rubbish’, these won’t be the films for you. The directing draws attention to itself (especially in “Talking Head”), which means if you honest want to be told a sage, you’re already missing the point. These can be seen as ‘experiments’ in movie-making, and the results are very spellbinding, provided you’re into that sort of thing.

Understandably, some people may be involved in these movies because of the connection to the Oshii-written anime “Jin-Roh”. Don’t seek information from a similar film, or grand relation to it. At first, these films seem to have microscopic relation to each other, let alone other films. Don’t examine action, either. There are occasional action scenes, though if that’s why you’re watching the film you’re once again likely missing the point.

It occured to me that “The Red Spectacles” is, in a device, a parody of itself. Any event or aspect of the storyline that may have been slightly far fetched, droll, or seen as a mistake in a normal film, is made very deliberate, exaggerated and displayed in an over-the-top manner that is somewhat remeniscent of comedic anime.. yet it doesn’t feel out of status. It seems to fit factual into the world Oshii has created in the film.

“Stray Dog” is a mellow, aesthetically stunning film, rich in color, which is a startling inequity to the schizofrenic “Red Spectacles”, which was predominately in gloomy and white, and generally far from mellow. If you’re not a fan of uninteresting movies, or are expecting some action, you’ll likely see at the time an hour into the movie and be amazed that seemingly nothing’s happened yet. This isn’t actually the case, of course, and while the film may be less complex, and generally less active, than the other two in the series, it composed has plenty of ideas to speak. This is the film that probably has the most in accepted with Jin-Roh, but again, don’t quiz the same film.

“Talking Head” defies convention even more than “The Red Spectacles” did, and presents a memoir about filmmaking elephantine of bizarre characters and events, and commentary on various aspects of the art. This should be lively viewing for appreciators of ‘arty’ cinema, not objective for it’s gallant direction and quirkiness, but also for the ideas expressed about the medium of film (and more specifically, animation), and the creative process.

I’ve long appreciated Oshii’s interesting works (such as Patlabor 2, Ghost in the Shell and Jin-Roh), and was very alive to to view his live action films. Between his anime films, these films, and the absolutely pretty “Avalon”, Oshii has shown diversity and modern vision, and has more than earned a situation among the giants of cinema.

I loved these movies and the soundtrack that came with them. Mamoru Oshii is a genius but there were quite a few flaws that kept me unsatisfied. I wouldn’t recommend these for everyone but only for those who like Oshii and anime. If you do it’s a definate purchase!

As a gigantic fan of older films and music, I am very aware of the many attempts of studios and represent companies to reissue and re-market a previously released product in a recent and improved format. While many of these reissues are often grand to their previously released counterparts, I have never been one to hold into the “upgrades”. I feel that you don’t need to have the best sound, the crispest describe, or the excess of supplemental materials in order to delight in a film and have it affect you. In all my years collecting music CD’s (particularly jazz) and DVDs, I deem I’ve upgraded no more than three items from my collections.

I had been hearing for a while now about a recent version of Seven Samurai coming out on Criterion that was supposed to have a ticket current transfer from a recently discovered source that was to be greatly improved from any other previous edition. Being one of the most beloved films of all time (and one of mine as well), this has been creating alot of excitement in the world of film lovers. Being perfectly tickled with my version of the Seven Samurai DVD from 1998, I had no plans to upgrade, but a side by side comparison on an internet space peaked my curiosity. And yesterday, being at a local retailer, I saw it on the shelf and decided to spring for it.

Let me yelp you….if ANY of you are on the fence about this one, particularly those of you who are stout fans of this fantastic film, I jabber you to go for it. The incompatibility between this edition and the previous edition is so drastic that I could not contain my eyes and ears. I have never had this experience with a DVD before, but the improvements in narrate and sound quality are SO enormous that I actually felt like I was watching Seven Samurai for the first time. The clarity of the report is absolutely wonderful. The exquisite gloomy and white tones are distinguished richer, but what’s most impressive is how nearly all the imperfections, scratches, and blemishes that were so prevalent on the previous edition have been removed. You can assert why this edition took so long to collect released….Criterion obviously took alot of time with this one. Their efforts paid off. Also, the sound has been greatly improved as well. Not only have they cleaned up the novel mono soundtrack, but they’ve added a stereo surround track as well. Normally, I cringe at these “original and improved” soundtracks on musty films, but this track does not sound artificial at all, but rather more like an enhanced version of the mono track. The stereo surround track together with the pretty recent characterize made for a recent experience watching the film. You are calm watching the mountainous Kurosawa classic that you know and appreciate, but at the same time it seems that even more life has been breathed into it. Didn’t judge that was possible for such a perfect film, but Criterion proved any doubter atrocious.

Please withhold in mind that I haven’t even gotten to the bonus materials, the commentary tracks, nor the very beautiful book yet. And there isn’t considerable more that I can say about this astounding film that hasn’t already been said. Honest based on the presentation of the film itself in this unique package from Criterion, I would highly recommend to everybody who loves this film and is thinking about upgrading their version of the film, that you do so. Its ravishing. And remember, this is coming from someone who doesn’t generaly care for “upgrades”.

Akira Kurosawa made “Seven Samurai” because he wanted to build a precise “jidai-geki,” a proper period-film that would point to the past as meaningful, while also being an spirited film. Kurosawa considered “Rashomon,” the film rightfully credited with making the West aware of the Japanese cinema, with being neither. But in his attempt to develop a truly “realistic” film, Kurosawa redefined the conflict at the heart of Japanese films. Before “Seven Samurai” this conflict was that of adore versus duty, where the central character is compelled by fate to sacrifice what he loves in the name of duty. In “Seven Samurai” the focus remains on duty, yet the conflict is now between the sincere and the pretended. Calling yourself a samurai does not do you one, something proven time and time again in the film, from the test of skill turned deadly between Kyuzo (Seiji Miyaguchi) and the big samurai to the first appearance of Kikuchiyo (Toshirô Mifune), with his stolen pedigree. Like Katshushiro (Ko Kimura), the youngster who wants to learn from the master, Kambei (Takashi Shimura), the audience is educated as to the legal nature of the samurai.

For me this film deals with the valiant, albeit in realistic terms. I have shown the film in World Literature classes, after students have read Homer’s “Iliad” and as they open reading Cervantes’ “Don Quixote.” Within that context, compared to the brutal arrogance of Achilles and the gentle insanity of Quixote, the audacious qualities of the seven samurai become sure. Their inspiration extends to some of the villagers. Manzo (Kamatari Fujiwara) is crazed with awe over the virtue of his daughter, Shino (Keiko Tsushima), and Rikichi (Yoshio Tsuchiya) fights to avenge the disgrace of his wife and his precipitating the death of Heihachi (Minoru Chiaki), but it is the laughable Yohei (Bokuzen Hidari), who finds within himself the ability to fight, a die a tragic death, who is the suitable barometer for what the samurai mean to the village. But the greatest tragedy is that despite this most superior concern and the bodies buried in honor at the top of the village cemetery, this has been but a temporary union between the villagers and the samurai. When Kambei declares, “We have lost again,” he redefines the battles: it was not to demolish all the bandits, it was to glean a good residence in the world. Yet we should have already known this, for the painful truth was driven home when Kyuzo, the master swordsman, is gunned down from slow. No better proof is needed in this film of the bitter truth that the world is not dazzling.

Mifune is the maniacal spirit of this film, as the faux-samurai Kikuchiyo, the dancing whirlwind whose emotions overwhelm everything including himself. But it is Shimura as Kambei, who embodies the mentor mentality with a minimum of anxiety, evoking more by rubbing his hand over his shaved head or giving a single piercing gaze than by any spoken dialogue. Even in a strong ensemble these performances stand out, for clearly different reasons. To fully devour Kurosawa’s mastery in “Seven Samurai” you need to peer the film several times to better indulge in the plot he constructs scenes, using contrasting images, evocative music and varying the length of cuts to affect tempo. For example, behold carefully at how the early scene of the farmers searching the streets for samurai and the later sequence where Katsushiro watches Kyuzo and Kikuchiyo waiting for the bandit scouts to return to their horses. Both of these scenes are proper primers to Kurosawa’s style.

For years we had to establish with the 160-minute version of the film that was made for export, which was actually called “The Glowing Seven” until John Strugis’s Western remake. Fortunately, “Seven Samurai” has been restored to tubby 208-minute glory, saved from being a lamentable cinematic tragedy on a par with “Greed,” “The Heavenly Ambersons,” and “Ivan the Poor.” There is a sense in which “Seven Samurai” is truly my approved film, because it was the one that instilled in me a cherish of cinema, of the craft and art of movie making, of compelling me to understand intellectually how Kurosawa was skillfully manipulating my emotions. The final battle sequences, fought and filmed in a torrent of rain, exhausting characters and audience alike with its increasingly relentless tempo, is given its potency because of the human elements that have been established in all that has taken region before hand. “Seven Samurai” is a heavenly film against which the stout majority of epics pale in comparison. Not even Kurosawa scaled these heights ever again.

Well, the second season of “Desperate Housewives” has finally advance to an raze. Season two for the most portion was a pleasing marvelous one, though not quite as edifying as season one. While the writing and acting was quiet advantageous, there were a few things about season two that didn’t work.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Desperate Housewives – The Complete Second Season! Click Here

The suitable things about the second season of this terrific ABC series were many of the same things that made this show’s first season so good: astronomical acting by its stars. The actress I idea who came off best in season two was Eva Longoria, who plays the shapely and sexy Gabrielle. Of the show’s four leading ladies, Longoria gave by far the funniest performances throughout the season (her catfight scene with that nun midway through the season was uproarious) . Marcia Nefarious gave the show’s most distinguished performances as Bree, the housewive who’s an obsessive perfectionist. Felicity Huffman (Lynette) and Teri Hatcher (Susan) were both terrific as usual. And Nicolette Sheridan was palatable as Edie, the Wisteria Lane tramp. Main storylines that played out through season two include: Gaby and Carlos trying to have a baby in every possible way; Lynette going help to work; Bree battling not only alcoholism but also her brat son Andrew; Susan breaking up with Mike, then finding a potential romantic interest with a doctor; and Edie finding romance with Susan’s ex-husband Karl.

But there were a few setbacks. The one asset that didn’t really work on the second season of “Desperate Housewives” was the sizable mystery storyline absorbing Wisteria Lane’s newest members: the Applewhites (introduced at the extinguish of season one) . This storyline wasn’t even end to matching the greatness of the gargantuan mystery storyline of season one (the suicide of Mary Alice Young), and it wasted the talents of Alfre Woodard, who portrayed Betty Applewhite. It seemed that the writers couldn’t acquire up their minds at where to go with this memoir, and in the process Woodard wasn’t given noteworthy to do in the role. That’s a shame, because Woodard is a stout actress and deserved better here. This storyline was thankfully finished off in the season two finale, and it appears that Woodard will not be succor for season three. One satisfactory thing came out of this storyline: a surprise twist that I didn’t search for coming.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Desperate Housewives – The Complete Second Season! Click Here

Another thing I didn’t search for coming was the terrifying ending to the season finale, which has turned out to be the large cliffhanger that will lead into season three. It will be piquant to eye what ends up happening when “Desperate Housewives” comes attend on the air for season three.

Critics loved season one; but hated season two. Same thing with the Emmy voters. After receiving 15 Emmy nominations for its freshman season, “Desperate Housewives” only got 7 nods for season two. Plenty of omissions this time: no nomination for Best Comedy Series, and no nominations for its leading ladies (Marcia Disagreeable was unfairly snubbed) . The only major nomination it got was for Alfre Woodard as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which (in my understanding) makes no sense at all. The only reason why Woodard is nominated is because Emmy voters cherish her. She is a past winner for some very noble work that’s she’s done (the HBO movie Miss Evers’ Boys and a guest appearence in the pilot to NBC’s L.A. Law) and she’s received other nominations for her other various roles. But to receive a nomination for a role in which we saw her not given a whole lot to do unbiased proves at how boneheaded the Emmy voters can be sometimes (which is quite often) . How Woodard can find a nomination for a wasted performance and Unsuitable fails to catch nominated for doing the strongest acting on the expose in season two is a mystery that I don’t assume anyone on Wisteria Lane would be able to figure out.

Don’t assume this review by its title! I am a devout Housewives fan and have gotten other friends crooked on it, too. Looking attend at Season 2, by time the finale had ended, we all knew considerable more about our accepted Housewife’s personality. For example, who knew Gabrielle had such a soft inside? Eva Longoria and Marcia Corrupt shone as their characters developed more and I fell even deeper in worship with Bree, a psychological complex of worship, disappointment, perfectionism, and unresolved childhood issues. The actresses’ skills were all pushed to the limit and I love their ability to surpass my my expectations always.

On the other hand the storylines were a bit comical at times, mostly due to a venerable season mystery: Susan’s attempted marriage to the happy guy, and how Xiao-Mei was a hidden slave, not to mention the Applewhite hiatus that we experienced towards the ruin of the explain, the Applewhites are the season mystery for heaven’s sakes! The Applewhites were also a minute too isolated from the neighborhood, I mean we know that Betty is secretive but she doesn’t communicate with Gabrielle or Lynette throughout the season! Season 1 was practically bullet-proof, so let’s explore that arrive attend.

Complaints aside, I did delight in Season 2, it’s the one that got me curved in the first station, I watched Season 1 on DVD after watching the Season 2 premiere. Don’t be keep off by the storyline goofs, I omitted the delectable parts of Season 2, which outweigh the goofs, so as not to spoil it for you.

The finale seems very promising, so I hope Season 3 continues the enormous work but factors in a more riveting mystery. Retract this place, and delight in the fine acting (better than Season 1), the astounding Brenda Strong’s narration, suitable production, and in many cases, issues that hit home.
